Hello, I'm Celle Engelen!
I started programming when I was 10 years old and immediately fell in love with the problem-solving side of it. At 14, I created my first Unity project and discovered my passion for game development. Two years later, I participated in my first game jam during summer break — and I've been hooked ever since.
I never quite fit into the traditional school system, as my true interests always revolved around game development. But once I joined Howest DAE, I finally felt at home. There, I deepened my understanding of not just programming, but also the art and business sides of game creation.
Born from a love of problem-solving and inspired by the art form of game development, I've grown into a true generalist. During my time at DAE, I've had the opportunity to step into producer and manager roles, and I've realized that's where many of my strengths shine.
Looking back, I'm amazed at how hobbies like being a DnD Dungeon Master, theatre, and programming have shaped who I am today. I'm excited to keep learning, collaborating, and pushing my skills even further in the world of game development.
My main game design philosophy is make, test and iterate. I believe that ideas aren't good or bad, they have to be made and tested. Your audience/testers will be the people where you get the data from to improve your game.
Producing a game is knowing the people and the tools you work with. It is being a strong communicator and someone who knows the big lines of the project and every aspect of it, whether that's art, code or even the work your team puts in.
Being a generalist makes makes me strong. What does that mean? It means I am a strong communicator, I know what everyone is talking about. It means I am a strong adapter, I can adapt to any job the situation requires. It means, that I know what it takes to make a game.
While I am still a student it is not a secret that I am too curious not to attempt really cool projects either as a school assignment or even just because I wanted to work out an idea I had in my head!
I love making games, they are an artform in which I can fully express myself. I've made puzzle games, produced a city builder, designed a demo for a physics-based space brawler and more!
These are just projects I made over the years maybe even some that I made before I joined my game production course at DAE. And I am proud to have made them.
